Goryeo Temple in Hangzhou, China, photo by Jiang Wu |
I am so glad to visit the rebuilt
Goryeo Temple in Hangzhou in May 13, 2015. This temple was patronized by Koreans after Goryeo
Prince Uicheon visited here in 1085. In the Ming and Qing dynasties, it was famous for a huge
revolving sutra repository (zhuanlunzang 转轮藏 or lunzang 轮藏) inside the monastery. The famous Ming literati Zhang Dai 张岱 had been here to turn the wooden structure when he was young. I wrote about the structure in the book on the Chinese Buddhist canon
Spreading Buddha's Word in East Asia.
